Why couches get so grimy
A couch picks up a lot more than you can see. Skin oil and lotion build up on the arms and the headrest. Dust from outside settles into the fabric. Pets add hair, oil and the occasional accident. Over time the spots you touch most turn darker than the rest, and that's usually what people notice first.
Vacuuming helps, but it won't lift oil out of fabric. That takes a cleaner made for upholstery and a rinse to carry the dirt away.
Check the care tag first
Most cotton, polyester and microfiber couches clean up well. Linen, silk and velvet are touchier. They can shrink, water spot or change color if they get too wet, so they need a gentler method.
Look for a tag under the cushions or on the frame. A "W" means water-based cleaning is fine. An "S" means solvent only. Snap a photo and send it with your quote request. No tag? We test a hidden spot before we touch the rest.
Pets, kids and spills
Pet hair, drool, muddy paws and accidents are the top reasons people call us about a couch. Juice, crayon and food are close behind. If a pet has peed on it, say so when you book. Urine needs its own treatment for the smell, not just the stain. More on that on our pet stain and odor removal page.
Add it to a carpet cleaning
Most people have us do the couch while we're already there for the carpet. It saves a trip, and the whole room gets clean at once. One customer thanked us for going above and beyond on their couch cleanings.
Keeping your couch clean after
Vacuum it with the upholstery tool every week or two, under the cushions too. Flip and rotate the cushions so they wear evenly. Keep it out of direct afternoon sun if you can, because High Desert sun fades fabric fast. Blot spills right away with a white towel. Don't rub.
How it works
- We check the fabric and the care tag.
- We test a hidden spot first.
- We pre-treat stains and heavy soil, then clean the fabric.
- We leave it to dry and tell you when it is ready to use.

Questions
How much does couch cleaning cost?
It depends on the size of the piece, the fabric, and how dirty it is. Send a photo with the quote form and we will give you a price before we start.
Can every fabric be cleaned?
Most can. Some delicate fabrics need a gentler method, and a few should not get wet at all. We check before we start and tell you if anything is a risk.
How long until I can sit on it?
Usually a few hours. A fan or the AC speeds it up a lot.
Can you get pet smell out of a couch?
Often, yes. Tell us about it when you book so we bring the right treatment. Urine that soaked into the cushion foam may take more than one treatment.
Do you clean leather?
Ask us when you book and tell us what kind of leather it is. Leather is handled differently from fabric, so we want to know before we come out.
Will the stains come out?
Most food, drink and dirt stains come out or get a lot lighter. Ink, dye and old set-in stains may not come all the way out. We tell you what to expect before we start.
Can you clean just the cushions?
We can, but cleaning only part of a couch can leave the rest looking darker next to it. Most people get a better result cleaning the whole piece.
How often should a couch be cleaned?
About once a year for most homes, and every six months if pets or kids are on it every day.
