Water Extraction & Drying

Water extraction in the High Desert. Call the 24-hour line.

Water on the floor right now? Shut it off at the source, move your things off the wet carpet, and call our 24-hour line at (760) 948-7070. Kount On Us pulls water out of carpet and pad in Victorville, Apple Valley, Hesperia and the High Desert, then sets up drying for the floor and the walls underneath. The faster the water comes out, the more of your carpet can be saved.

What to do right now

  • Shut off the water. Most homes have a main shutoff near the front of the house or where the line comes in.
  • Turn off power to wet rooms if you can do it safely. Don't walk through standing water near outlets or cords.
  • Move furniture, electronics and anything you care about off the wet carpet.
  • Put foil or plastic under furniture legs you can't move so they don't stain the carpet.
  • Take photos before anything gets moved or torn out.
  • Then call us.

How we handle water extraction and drying

We pull the standing water out of the carpet and pad, then dry the carpet and the structure under it. We get calls for broken AC lines, busted water heaters and flooded laundry rooms. One customer called on a Sunday about a flood, and James and his son came out that day.

Getting the water out is only half of it. Water wicks up into drywall and baseboards and soaks into the pad and subfloor. Leave those wet and the damage keeps spreading after the carpet feels dry. That's why we set up drying equipment and keep checking until the structure is dry, not just the carpet.

Common High Desert water calls

  • Water heaters that burst or leak, usually in the garage or a laundry closet
  • AC condensate lines that clog and overflow
  • Swamp cooler leaks that drip into ceilings and walls
  • Broken supply lines under sinks, toilets and washers
  • Roof leaks during summer monsoon storms

Clean water vs. dirty water

Not all water is the same. Water from a clean supply line or water heater is the easiest to deal with, and the carpet can often be saved if it's dried fast. Water that ran across floors, sat for a while, or came from a washer or dishwasher is dirtier, and the pad usually has to go.

Water from a sewer backup or a toilet with waste in it is a different kind of job. Don't touch it, and keep kids and pets away. Tell us exactly what happened when you call so we can tell you what kind of help you need.

Why speed matters

The first day or two decides how much can be saved. Clean water that sits starts turning dirty, the pad soaks up more, and drywall and baseboards start to swell. A wet room left too long also starts to smell musty. The sooner the water's out and the drying is running, the more of your carpet and walls you keep.

Carpet, pad and walls

Carpet can often be dried and saved. Pad soaks up water like a sponge and often gets replaced, especially if the water was dirty. Wet drywall and baseboard sometimes have to be cut out so the wall can dry from the inside. When one customer had an AC line break, the review mentioned how quick we were with the demolition and drying out the walls. Once we see it, we'll tell you what can be saved. When it's all dry, a regular carpet cleaning takes care of what's left.

How it works

  1. You call the water emergency line.
  2. We extract the standing water from carpet and pad.
  3. We set up drying equipment for the carpet and the structure.
  4. We check back until it is dry.

Questions

How much does water extraction cost?

It depends on how much water there is, how many rooms are wet, and how long drying takes. Once we see it, we tell you what needs to happen and what it will cost.

Do you answer at night and on weekends?

Yes, the water emergency line is 24 hours. One customer called us on a Sunday for a flood.

Can the carpet be saved?

Often, if the water was clean and it gets dried fast. We tell you what can be saved once we see it.

Should I run fans in the meantime?

Yes. Open windows if it is dry outside and run any fans you have. Moving air helps until we get there.

Should I pull up the carpet myself?

No. Wet carpet is heavy and tears easily, and pulling it can damage the tack strip. Get the water off, move your things, and let us handle the carpet.

How long does drying take?

It depends on how much water there was and how long it sat. Many rooms take a few days with drying equipment running. We check back until it is dry.

What if the water came from a toilet or sewer?

Do not touch it and keep everyone away from it. Tell us exactly what happened when you call so we can tell you what kind of help you need.

Can you dry the walls too?

Yes. We dry the structure, not just the carpet. Sometimes wet drywall or baseboard has to be cut out so the wall can dry from the inside.
