Area rug cleaning in the High Desert, before you buy a new one
Most area rugs can be cleaned instead of replaced. Kount On Us deep cleans area rugs for homes in Victorville, Apple Valley, Hesperia and the High Desert, usually on the same visit as the carpet. We check what the rug is made of and test the dyes before we start, so the colors stay put. Send a photo and we'll tell you honestly whether cleaning will help, and what it costs.

Before you replace your rug
People call us ready to throw a rug out all the time. One customer said we saved them from having to replace the whole rug. Another had two area rugs deep cleaned and was happy with both the result and the price. A photo with your quote request is usually enough for us to tell you what to expect.
Why area rugs hold so much dirt
A rug catches everything that comes through the door. Dust and sand sift down through the pile and pile up at the base where you can't see it. Ever flipped a rug over and tapped the back? All that dust that falls out is what we mean. It wears the fibers down every time someone walks on it.
What is your rug made of?
Different rugs need different handling, so it's the first thing we ask.
- Nylon, polyester and polypropylene: usually the easiest to clean
- Wool: cleans well with the right method and some care with heat and water
- Cotton and jute: can shrink or brown if they get too wet
- Viscose, rayon and "art silk": they look like silk but can brown, stiffen or lose their shine when wet, so they need extra care
- Hand-knotted and older rugs: we look closely at the dyes and fringe before we start
Why we test the dyes
Some rug dyes bleed when they get wet, especially reds and dark blues. Once colors run, there's no undoing it. So we test a small area before we clean the whole rug. If the dyes aren't stable, you hear about it before anything happens.
Pet accidents on rugs
Rugs are a favorite spot for pet accidents. Urine soaks through the rug and often into the pad and floor underneath. If that's what you're dealing with, say so when you book so we bring the right treatment for the smell, not just the stain. Very old urine may not come all the way out, and we'll say that up front. See pet stain and odor removal for how we treat it.
Keeping a rug in good shape
Vacuum both sides once in a while, not just the top. Turn the rug every few months so sun and foot traffic wear it evenly. A rug pad keeps it from sliding and cuts down on wear. Blot spills right away. Most rugs do well with a professional cleaning about once a year, often on the same visit as the carpet.
How it works
- We check the rug material and any stains.
- We test the dyes so colors do not run.
- We pre-treat and deep clean the rug.

Questions
How much does area rug cleaning cost?
It depends on the size, the material and the condition. Send a photo and the rough size with the quote form and we will give you a price before we start.
Do you clean wool rugs?
Tell us what the rug is made of when you book. We check every rug before we clean it and use a method that suits the material.
Can you get pet urine out of a rug?
Often, yes, if it has not soaked through for a long time. Send a photo and we will tell you what to expect.
Can you clean rugs during a carpet job?
Yes. Most of our rug cleanings happen on the same visit as the carpet.
Will the colors run?
Not if we catch it first. We test the dyes before we clean the whole rug. If a rug has dyes that bleed, we tell you and talk through options before we start.
Can you clean the fringe?
Yes. Fringe is usually cotton and can yellow or tangle, so we clean it carefully. Fringe that is already worn or brown may not come back to white.
How do I know what my rug is made of?
Check the label on the back. No label? Send a photo of the front and back and we can usually tell.
My rug smells musty. Can that come out?
Often, yes. Musty smells usually come from moisture or old spills trapped in the rug. Mention it when you book so we know what we are dealing with.
